A Fun Home Day Care for Children of All Ages

The children will have many opportunities to answer their questions with the manipulation of a wide variety of materials. "Will a large ball of playdough bounce?" Let's find out! With pre-verbal children, the "questions" that the young one has are discovered by closly observing his/her interests. An unspoken interest in blocks, telephones, crayons, friends, food will lead to "projects" on these observed interests. Young childdren, (especially babies and toddlers) learn with their entire bodies. Their sense of self, and their sense of their own competency is developed when the teacher follows their lead and provides safe opportunities to explore. Perhaps it is in a small tunnel, or in a tent or a bucket of balls. Or, of course, the great and marvelous outdoors!
The entire learning process is documented and the results displayed for parents and friends to see.
The Reggio philosophy speaks of The Hundred Languages of Children, in this poem by Loris Malaguzzi, one of the founders of the method.

The Hundred Languages of Children

No way. The hundred is there.

The child

is made of one hundred.
The child has
a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking
of playing, of speaking.
A hundred always a hundred
ways of listening
of marvelling, of loving
a hundred joys
for singing and understanding
a hundred worlds
to discover
a hundred worlds
to invent
a hundred worlds
to dream.
The child has
a hundred languages
(and a hundred hundred hundred more)
but they steal ninety-nine.
The school and the culture
separate the head from the body.
They tell the child:
to think without hands
to do without head
to listen and not to speak
to understand without joy
to love and to marvel
only at Easter and at Christmas.
They tell the child:
to discover the world already there
and of the hundred
they steal ninety-nine.
They tell the child:
that work and play
reality and fantasy
science and imagination
sky and earth
reason and dream
are things
that do not belong together.

And thus they tell the child
that the hundred is not there.
The child says:
No way. The hundred is there.

I am a participant in the Maryland Child Care Credential Program. This is a voluntary program that seeks to recognize child care providers who go beyond the basic requirements needed to maintain a day care license. By attending evening and weekend classes, I am working my way up the credential program. The purpose of the program is to increase the overall quality of child care programs and to provide a structure for the professional growth of Maryland's child care providers. I have chosen to participate in order to improve my skills and develop my knowledge in the field of professional child care.

I have cared for more than forty children. More than fifteen started as infants, the remainder coming to me as pre-schoolers or school age. (These numbers do not include my own six children.)

My home is regularly inspected by the Child Care Administration, the Fire Marshall, and of course, the parents of all those children. Contact me for my reference list and you could call the parents and ask them why they chose to place their child with me.

My goal is to provide you and your child with quality, long-term day care. I have cared for many children for three, four, five and more years. This continuity of care is good for everyone, most especially--your child!
